Alvina "Vena" Hoagland


Alvina “Vena” Hoagland, 99, of Miles City, formerly of Terry, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 1913, at  Moorhead, Minn.

Mrs. Hoagland was born Jan. 14, 1914, at Olanda, the daughter of August and Bertha Martin. 

On Dec. 29, 1934, she and Roy Hoagland were married in Miles City. The family lived in Terry until 1941 when they moved to Tacoma, Wash., where Mr. Hoagland was employed at Sea-Tac shipyards during World War II. In 1946, the family returned to Terry. They had four daughters and one son.

Mrs. Hoagland was employed in Terry as a bookkeeper at Farmers Union, a clerk at Reynolds market, head librarian at Prairie County Library and medical records director and medicare coordinator at Prairie Community Hospital. She and her husband retired in 1976, and they spent six winters in Arizona. She moved to Miles City in 1987.

She had many hobbies. Mrs. Hoagland enjoyed making agate, turquoise and gold wire jewelry. She also knitted, crocheted and made various craft items out of beads. She participated in senior citizens programs and particularly loved bridge, pinochle, and bingo.          

Her survivors include two daughters,  Karen Hanson and Bonnie Meek; her son, Gary Hoagland; nine grandchildren, Courtney Wolff, Gina Wolff, Valerie Beretta, Troy Wolff, Tana Ban, Angie Strobel, Kelly Wolff, Kathryn Clevenger and Nicolette Eggerud; 17 great-grandchildren, Courtney Wolff Jr., Jennifer Wolff, Rachel Brandt, James and Daniel Petroff,  Nicholas and Zeth Ban, Rachelle and Stacey Strobel, Sean Wolff, Jessica and Keely Clevenger, Caleb Hoagland, Olivia , Payton and River Eggerud, and Halo Miller; 14 great-great-grandchildren, Courtney and Conrad Wolff, Jayden and Mason Petroff, Braden, Bryson and Gracyn Brandt, Kyrssa Petroff, and Madilyn, Ethan, Kirra, Keely, Zada and Zaxx Ban.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hoagland in 1983; her daughters, Ann Wolff in 2004 and Joan Wolff in 2011; and her parents, three brothers and five sisters.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in the Prairie County Cemetery in Terry.
