H.S. Generals place 3rd in state tourney

Seth Hamilton hit for a hat trick to propel the Miles City Generals to a 5-2 win over Glasgow on Sunday in the third-place consolation game at the Montana High School State Class B Hockey Tournament in Havre.

While Hamilton provided the offense, Nick Thompson was nearly untouchable in goal, turning aside 61 shots.

Hamilton logged the Generals’ first three goals of the game, including an unassisted score. Jesse James and Anthony Smith recorded assists on his first goal, while Andrew Laakso assisted on the second.

Laakso added an unassisted goal for Miles City, while Smith scored on an empty-netter as Glasgow pulled their goalie late in the game.

Miles managed 28 shots on goal.

Miles City dropped a 13-1 decision to Bozeman in the opening round on Friday. 

Smith scored unassisted on a power play for the Generals, who were penalized seven times.

Thompson and Ben Barlog shared the goal-tending duties for Miles City.

The Generals managed just 11 shots on goal against a tough Bozeman defense.

Miles City and Glasgow batted to a 3-3 tie on Saturday. Hamilton scored a pair of unassisted goals while recording another hat trick. James logged an assist.

Thompson was once again solid in goal despite facing a flurry of Glasgow shots. He recorded 61 saves.

Also on Saturday, the Generals fell 8-2 to host Havre.

Laakso had a goal and an assist for Miles City, while Hamilton added a goal on assists by Laakso and Zach Zimmer.
