Outlaws stun Dawson Community College

Fresh off an 0-3 weekend in Cheyenne, Wyoming, coach Monty Frare took his varsity Outlaw Baseball Club to Glendive to face the Dawson Community College Buccaneers on Wednesday, April 12, and got a better result.

It was a bold move, pitting his young team against a college squad, but the risk paid off with a decisive 11-7 Outlaw win.

“The boys competed!” Frare said with pride.

Dawson jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning off Outlaw trio Wyatt Weiss, Shane Sinclair, and Kyle Nielson, but the Outlaw offense answered with four runs of their own in the top of the fourth.

The hits kept coming, and the Outlaws added two more runs in the fifth, and DCC chipped back with one in the bottom of the frame. The top of the sixth was scoreless for the Outlaws, and DCC tacked on two runs in their half of the inning, taking a 7-6 lead.

Three Outlaw runs in the top of the seventh and two more for emphasis in the top of the ninth finished off the Bucs.

Starting pitcher Weiss threw 2.1 hitless innings. Dylan Munroe closed out the game with one inning, zero hits, and zero runs scored, and earned the save.

Morrow led the offense with a pair of doubles, and Dustin Benson, Notbohm, Munroe, Kasey Seyfert and Quayde Shores stole a base.

The Outlaws combined for six hits to DCC’s five, and committed four errors compared to three by the Bucs.

The Outlaws host Billings in a doubleheader on Saturday. The first games begins at noon.
