The Miles Community College basketball teams made the trek to Riverton, Wyo., on Saturday to play Central Wyoming in a Region IX North Sub-Region double-header.

The Lady Pioneers fell 59-47, but the MCC men rallied to win 70-61.

The Pioneers improved to 12-10 overall and 5-4 in the North Sub-Region. The Pioneers have won four of their last five, including three on the road.

"We play really well on the road," Pioneers Head Coach Chase Tait said. "We've gone into some difficult places and got wins. We have five of our last seven at home and we've put ourselves in good position to get into the top four in the region."

For the Lady Pioneers, they dropped to 11-11 overall and 2-7 in the North. They have lost four straight, all in the North Sub-Region.

"We have to keep doing what we're doing," Lady Pioneers Head Coach Liz Lewis said. "We focus on three things: work hard, play smart and play together. We've been playing hard; we just need to do the other two."

In the men's game on Saturday, the Pioneers trailed 33-31 at halftime but put together a 27-8 run in the second half that put them on top for good.

"We played well in the second half," Tait said. "We had a 13-minute stretch where we played the best we have all season. The last four minutes, we struggled taking care of the ball, but we did enough to get the win, which is all you can ask for on the road."

After shooting 52 percent from the field in the first half, they actually improved to 54 percent in the second half. For the game, MCC was 26-49 from the field, including 7-13 from three-point range.

The Pioneers held a decisive 40-29 edge in rebounds, which helped alleviate the 23 turnovers they committed.

Jonathan Dogbo led a balanced offensive attack for the Pioneers with 14 points. Quinn Smith and Conner Smyle each had 13 and Tyree King added 11.

The shooting woes continued for the Lady Pioneers, who scored just 18 points in the first half and trailed 38-18 at the break.

MCC shot 23 percent from the field in the game and was just 3-16 from three-point range.

"Our girls played hard," Lewis said. "We just weren't able to finish our shots."

Tess BLaquiere was the only Lady Pioneer in double figures with 15 points. Ashley Hildreth had nine, Jaycin Tini had eight and Shelby Weeks tossed in seven points.

The MCC teams have a busy week. They will host Casper College on Wednesday night, starting at 5 p.m., and will host Northwest on Saturday afternoon, starting at 3 p.m.
