Softball: Huntley tops Cowgirls

The Custer County District High School softball team chipped away at Huntley’s pitching and kept grinding out runs on Thursday, but it wasn’t enough.

The Cowgirls’ two-run rally in the sixth inning fell short as Huntley won 8-7.

McKenzie Taylor led off the Cowgirls’ sixth inning with a double and scored on Tori Ogolin’s single, and Alexa Kappel, who’d reached on a walk, scored when Jenna Swope’s grounder caused an error. But the scoring stopped there for the Cowgirls and Huntley walked away with the win.

The Cowgirls registered 10 hits in the game, led by senior catcher Madi Hill’s 3-for-4 and Taylor’s 2-for-3 outings. Kylee Licht, Hill and Taylor each rapped doubles, and sophomore shortstop Autumn Porter laid down an RBI sacrifice bunt.

Custer County’s pitching duo of Kappel and Ogolin surrendered four earned runs.
