Tournament starts for Miles City youth boys basketball
The Miles City boys fifth- and sixth-grade basketball league started their tournament this week and will wrap up their season tonight with two games.
The Timber Wolves and Blue Blazers will play at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Green Gunners and the Triple Threats for the championship game at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be held at the Custer County District High School gym.
Blue Blazers 20, Timber Wolves 10
The Blue Blazers broke open a close game at halftime with a big third quarter on Monday night.
The Blue Blazers led 6-4 at halftime, but then outscored the Timber Wolves 8-0 in the third to take control of the game.
Jess Bellows and Corbin Jerrell each had seven points to lead the Blue Blazers. Seth Decker, Brenan Hager and Dylan Cain each chipped in with two points.
Jack Cline had four points to lead the Timber Wolves. Cooper Austin, Dylan Gibson and Casey Sparks each added two points.
Green Gunners 30, Thunder Cats 16
The Green Gunners jumped out to a huge lead in the first half and cruised to their win on Monday night over the Thunder Cats. The win put the Green Gunners into the championship game.
After the first quarter, the Green Gunners led 13-1 and took a 19-3 lead into halftime.
Kaden Koenig led a balanced effort for the Green Gunners with seven points. Joel Christopherson, Danny Anderson and Mason Harding each had six points, Taegan Williams added four and Charlie Swogger chipped in with one.
For the Thunder Cats, Evan iller had 10 points, all in the second half when they outscored the Green Gunners 13-11. Lauren McLain and Tyrell Youngbear each had two points, while Quinn Rogers and Koby Wright each had one.
Triple Threats 24, Blue Blazers 20
The Triple Threats got off to a good start, but had to come back in the fourth quarter to advance to the championship game.
After the first quarter, the Triple Threats lead 8-0. But that lead was cut to 10-6 at halftime and the Blue Blazers took a 14-13 lead going into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the Triple Threats outscored the Blue Blazers 11-6 to get the win.
Haden Warren had 10 points and Jayden Venable added nine to lead the Triple Threats. KeyanDOnnelly and Slade Tredway each had two and Gagge Duncan contributed one point.
For the Blue Blazers, Jess Bellows had 15 points, Trace Strub scored four and Brenen Hager added one.
Timber Wolves 17, Thunder Cats 12
The Timber Wolves enjoyed a big second quarter that carried them to the win over the Thunder Cats.
The Timber Wolves led 8-7 after the first quarter, but outscored the Thunder Cats 7-0 in the second to take control of the game.
Kaid Campbell and Damian Leidholt each had four points to lead the Timber Wolves. Blake Herzog had three points, while Cooper Austin, Dylan Gibson and Casey Sparks each added two points.
Evan Miller led the Thunder Cats with eight points. Lauren McLain and Koby Wright each had two points.
