It was a relatively small turnout for Miles Community College’s Board of Trustees election Tuesday, in which three candidates, including one incumbent, were vying for the two available seats.
Incumbent Garret McFarland was the leading vote-getter, holding on to his seat with 496 votes. McFarland has been a member of the board, as well as a past chairperson, since 2005.
He has been a dentist in Miles City for 17 years.
Tad Torgerson was elected to the other available seat for his first term with 414 votes.
Torgerson, a CPA at Stallard & Associates, P.C. in Miles City, is no stranger to the MCC family, having worked for nine years at the school, most recently as its vice president of finance and administration.
Matt Kleinsasser received 184 votes in his second attempt to secure a seat on the board. Kleinsasser is currently the superintendent of the Rosebud School District.
There were no voted levies or trustee elections this year for the Miles City Unified School District or the Custer County rural schools, and all trustee positions were filled by acclamation.
For the Unified Board of Trustees, Bob Wagner and Don Hofmann were re-elected, and joining the board are Garve Gierke and Terry Annalora.
