Curtis Gerald Thorne, 71, of Merlin, Oregon, formerly of Miles City, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, after a battle with Parkinson’s disease.
A memorial service was held for him on Monday afternoon, June 2, 2014, at Parkway Christian Center in Merlin, with Pastor Russ Millsaps officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

He was born Jan. 23, 1943, in Pendleton, Oregon, to Lewis E. and Naomi Chapman Thorne. In 1962, he graduated from Pendleton High School and attended Linfield College.
He worked as a counselor for the Umatilla County Juvenile Court, served as a counselor in the Army during the Vietnam War, and then accepted a youth pastor position in Springfield, Oregon, which led to his career as a pastor.
He pastored in Miles City and Missoula and recently retired as pastor of North Valley Assembly of God Church in Merlin due to his failing health.
During his high school years, he was honored as the most outstanding all-around athlete in Pendleton High School’s class of 1962. He was an all-conference defensive end in football and held the school record in high hurdles for 37 years.
He married Dana Jones of Pendleton, who died after 10 years of marriage.
His second wife, Nancy Kailey of Miles City, died in 2004.
In 2010, he married Susie Delamore of Grants Pass, Oregon, who survives. In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Troy Thorne of Eagle Point, Oregon, and Trenton Thorne of Grants Pass; a daughter, Whitney Medina of Portland, Oregon; four brothers, Ronald Thorne of Phoenix, Arizona, Lewis C. Thorne of Newberg, Oregon, Everett Thorne of Rainier, Oregon, and Robert Thorne of Pendleton; two step-children; four grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
